There is no doubt that when looking back on 2009, we will be judged by our stakeholders, not only on the difficult decisions we needed to make to run our business but also on how we went about making the bigger decisions.
Looking back at 2008, the development of our businesses in Mumbai and Bahrain, and UK product developments, have all taken account of environmental, social and governance issues and impact.
During tough times we are committed to maintaining our high standards of doing business. As such, in 2009, we will be increasing the focus on our Business Ethics Working Group as a key mechanism to understand how well we are making decisions and their impact across our business.
In summary, 2009 will be the year of maintaining our focus of providing financial security for our clients, encouraging high standards in others during a tough economic backdrop and continuing a leadership position in areas where we have influence to drive up standards.
