Ansa – Making a Difference Award for Supplier of 2008

Return to the video.

Congratulations to all our suppliers shortlisted for the Legal & General Make A Difference Awards 2008.

Supplier of the year is… Ansa.

Jon Haddon, National Account Manager, Ansa Group Ltd:
- We are business partners of Legal & General, and they give us their instructions for their insurance claims that come through from their policyholders. We're entering the Making a Difference Awards because we feel that we are making a difference. Ansa actually deal with drains. It's a very mysterious world, drains, but it's not mysterious to us.

Darren Green, Team Leader:
- As you can see from behind, we've got an excavation that we’ve opened up. Part of it can go back in the hole. The other part will go in a waste bag like this. We recycle rather than go to your normal landfill sites.

Lee Fildes, Site Operative:
- We never put anything that will obviously cause any damage back in the ground. I have been on a lot of jobs where I've actually dug down and found, like, paint cans what have been left in the ground and that. And obviously with paint in. The good stuff we put back in. The bad stuff we obviously take away with us. Some of the companies I've worked for, they just don't seem interested in the environment but Ansa seem to be very keen. If a big company starts it, hopefully, the smaller ones will follow suit.

Jon Haddon:
- Some of the key changes that we have implemented are the replacement of our vehicle fleet. They use lower emissions. The environment is very important to Ansa but it's very important to everybody else. We're aware of our responsibilities to everybody else as a business.

Man on telephone:
- The insurance company will appoint a plumber to come out and look at it.

Jon Haddon:
- Simple is the best way, really. There's no point making this complicated. It's about a change of attitude and a change of culture, getting away from the throwaway society. We reuse, we recycle.

Steve Davis, HSE Manager, Ansa Group Ltd:
- This is the Ansa Claims Handling Department. We'll take a look at some of the initiatives we now have in place. This young gentleman here is always one of those people who switches his computer off before he leaves the office every night, aren't you, Brad?

Brad Jackson, Claims Handler:
- I always try to keep the thermostat down on the heating and keep the air con off for as long as we can, really.

Steve Davis:
- Hiya, Chris.

Chris Garnett, Team Leader, Claims Handling:
- Hello. We used to send a lot of letters out but now we don't send as many. We do things like text people. We use the phone a lot more; we use emails a lot more as well.

Steve Davis:
- This is Stacey and she gives everybody a good telling-off if they don't do what they should be doing.

Stacey Flynn, Customer Service Advisor:
- I'm on lates so myself and Chris behind me have to lock up so all the lights are off. Everything's got to be turned off. It’s not just a case of "Turn the lights off!" They explain to us why we need to do it. Posters that say things like that. You think, "God, It really does make such a difference."

Steve Davis:
- All of our paper waste is collected in these containers. Each two bins is equivalent to one tree. So far, to date, for example, this year, in this office alone, we've managed to save around 22 trees. I think everybody's quite chuffed, actually, about that fact.

Jon Haddon:
- Small differences in themselves may not make an immediate difference but the idea is that somebody learns from that, they then talk to their friend, they then talk to their neighbour. Whatever it is, that then starts to grow and the idea and the change develops from there and then it spreads out from that.

Rob French, Team Leader, Customer Services:
- I've worked for companies before where you don't recycle, you just put things in the bin, throw them out, whatever, but we are encouraged on a daily basis. I think it's been drilled into us, and has been for some time now.

Stephanie Buckland, Customer Service Advisor:
- An office can use so much energy without even trying and it's just good that they try and reduce that.

Steve Davis:
- It's helping to secure the future for our children.

Jon Haddon:
- We'd like to win the award because it affirms from one of our key business partners that we're aligned with the way that they want to go forward and they're aligned with the way that we want to go forward.

Steve Davis:
- If we get the Making a Difference Award, I will be absolutely over the moon!
